How a solar power system works

How it works

How do large solar power plants work?

The solar panels on the roof capture sunlight using solar cells and produce direct current (DC). The inverter then converts this DC into alternating current (AC), which can be used for your electrical needs.

The following graphic of a large commercial property explains how the solar system works and shows the placement of the most important elements in the building:

How it works

How a solar panel works

Industrial buildings with large flat roofs are ideal for solar panels, allowing optimal tilt and orientation for maximum yield. We analyze your annual consumption and roof area to determine the ideal system size and identify opportunities to align energy-intensive processes with solar production for greater savings.

The goal is to size the system to match your consumption and maximize self-use of solar power, especially during peak production.

In-roof or on-roof

A photovoltaic system lasts 30+ years, so the roof must be in good condition and not require replacement soon. If the roof is over 40 years old, renovation is recommended. When replacing a pitched roof, an integrated PV system reduces roofing costs and offers a cost-efficient way to combine a new roof with solar power.

Storage for higher self-consumption

To maximize savings, increase self-consumption of your solar power. A battery stores excess daytime energy, so you can use it later instead of buying electricity from the grid.

Increase self-consumption with control

Storage solutions or control systems can increase your self-consumption by up to 80%.

Our Smart Energy control system switches on energy-intensive appliances when solar power is available. This increases self-consumption, thus reducing the need for external coal and/or nuclear power.

Installation of large solar power plants

FreeState employs experienced professionals such as electricians, roofers, carpenters, plumbers, and sheet metal workers. To ensure you can benefit from your system as quickly as possible, our professionals will install it from start to finish. Installation costs are fully included in the purchase price.
